Pupil Premium Report

The Pupil Premium is an allocation of funding provided to schools to support children who may be vulnerable to underachievement. The Pupil Premium is allocated to schools on the basis of the number of students on roll known to be currently eligible for Free School Meals or who have claimed within the last 6 years, as well as students who have been looked after continuously for more than 6 months by the Local Authority or adopted from care. Children of members of the armed forces are also entitled to this funding. All schools are required to report on the amount of funding and how this is being used.

Principles

At Burton upon Stather Primary we organise teaching and learning in order to meet the needs of all children in the best way possible. We ensure that appropriate provision is made for children who belong to vulnerable groups and that our socially disadvantaged children have their needs adequately assessed and met. We further support these groups using many strategies that are beyond the remit of this expenditure report.

We recognise that not all children who receive the Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) will be socially disadvantaged and we also recognise that not all children that are disadvantaged receive the Pupil Premium Grant. Given this, we carefully track how well Pupil Premium Grant children are achieving as a group compared to their peers at our school and nationally.

Our strategy is published annually towards the end of the autumn term.

Our school objectives

At Burton upon Stather Primary School the following objectives have been set that focus on specific groups of pupils or subjects:

  • To raise attainment of lower attainers in year groups - Identification of low attaining pupils, progress checks ½ termly and end of year evaluation.
  • To identify PPG pupils who are falling behind in their learning and to initiate classroom strategies of support/implementation of interventions. Progress is measured through a range of assessments and observations.
  • To put the child at the heart of learning to raise achievement
  • To accelerate the progress made in reading for identified groups of children through improved Speech and Language strategies
  • Continue with 1:1 or small group tuition with identified children
